Professional and Linguistics Assessments Board (PLAB) Examinations

These PLAB exams will have to be taken by all persons interested in training in the United Kingdom. It is thus advantageous for all persons interested to familiarize themselves with the following information:

 

The PLAB exam is split into two (2) parts:

 

Part One

 

Fees £145 (Effective From 1, April, 2014)

This part of the test is a computer-marked written examination consisting of 200 single best answer (SBA) questions. It may include images, electrocardiograms (ECGs) and x-rays. The examination lasts three hours.

Part Two

 

Fees £420 (Effective From 1, April, 2014)

An Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) which essentially takes the form of 14 clinical scenarios or 'stations' as well as a rest station and one or two pilot stations. Each station lasts five minutes.

 

Important: Note that this examination is held only at the purpose-built Clinical Assessment Centre in Manchester, UK.

The General Medical Council is the regulatory body for doctor's licensing in the UK. After completing PLAB, one may register for a license to practice with GMC.
